Photos of Vancouver BC from CanSecWest 2012
CanSecWest 2012 has come and gone. I had not been to Vancouver BC in a very long time and I had forgotten how big it is!
It was great to meet a lot of people at the conference. I also met Darin from the RIM Waterloo office who is a fellow photography nut. He and I did a photo walk in the city. My pictures are below and you can see his at www.makebright.com.
Cheers!
I have never been to Vancouver … but man, do you make me wish I could go — like, now!
GORGEOUS pix! My favorite is the fourth from last — what cool perspective. Almost made me dizzy…
🙂
Those are all really fantastic! Being a Vancouver citizen myself, I have to say how much they RoCk! Lol.
I have some really good ones that I took from Stanley Park looking in at the city.
Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Anisa
All your photos are nice but the first one is really really pretty!
Really greats colors in these shots. Shows off the vibrance of that city. Vancouver is somewhere I hope to visit soon. I love the hilarity of the shot with the Chevron station in the middle of the water for the boats. I have never seen anything like that.
I think that float planes use the Chevron more than boats. There is a float plane terminal attached to the convention centre.
That’s correct. There were several float planes just below where I took the picture. I can’t remember the name of the building but it had a grass roof.
That would be the Vancouver Convention Centre West Building. It was also the media centre for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Interesting. Thanks!
Vancouver is a great city! My blog is http://mythoughtstotheworld.wordpress.com/
Amazing pics!
I’m going to Vancouver in July… I think the view will not be the same, right?
Kisses from Brazil
Never been there in July so post some pictures and let us know!
Ok! I’ll surely do it!!! 😉

Great photos – love how dramatic they are.
What a treat to see these photographs. I visited Vancouver years ago and your photos bring back some great memories. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed.
Beautiful photos. I especially like stone and mortar buildings, the wooden doors and the arches about the doors in the first two photos.
Love the pictures! Great job!
This is a great set of photographs. I love the variation of different photographic styles, it shows how many different characteristics a city can have. Awesome work.
I love Vancouver so much! What great photos!
My favourite city in the world! Great shots!
I’ve been there about five times and really like it. Thanks for sharing. Connie

great shots !!!!
Love your photos specially the 2nd and the 11th one. Thanks for sharing!
Sweet – I like to use some vegetation to go along with buildings as well. Here is a post I wrote recently about a trip to Dubai I took in 2011 –
Thanks!
i just looked at your friends blog of the same photo walk. Wow, what a difference between the two of you. I like your photographs very much.
Very nice. Didn’t expect it to look like that. It reminds me of Manhattan.

Thank you, its been too many years since I have made it home, I love seeing photos.
cool ! never been seen like the ones you took .. wow
Beautiful!!
Never thought anyone could show me something new in my own home town, but the shots really provide a refreshing perspective on things. I’m toying with the idea of getting into photography myself.
Any camera recommendations for a newbie with $500? To be published primarily for newsprint/blogging.

One of the lower end Canon or Nikon’s should do fine. Maybe even buy a slightly used on and spend some money on a good lense.
Thanks Jerry! Appreciate the tip!
Great pictures! I loved the Vancouver are when I visited there last October. Sea-to-sky highway on the way to Whistler was breathtaking.
Great photos of a beautiful city!
I have not made it to Vancouver yet, must go soon.
Vancouver is one of my top two cities in the world. You’ve captured it in a wonderful manner. Thanks for sharing
Really nice pictures, seems like an interesting city.
Keep it easy with the sharpening though 🙂
I’ve lived in Vancouver many years ago and I have to say I love your photos! Wow! Lovely city and you’ve made it look wonderful!
Your pictures are very detailed…a lot of clarity in the horizontal and vertical lines =)
Great Pics! Great town!
Gorgeous!!! Makes me want to head north right now.
Such awesome pictures! Makes me want to go!
Love the pedestrians reflected from above shot, Jerry. Here’s hoping for many more fruitful photo walks.

Hey Darin. Yes! Need to do this again. Lot’s of fun!
Wow, what a fresh perspective in those photos. Making me miss the West Coast, though. Vancouver just gets more and more beautiful and the juxtaposition of nature and city is like nowhere else.
Congrats. on being Freshly Pressed! I miss Vancouver but it’s still my 2nd home city. I lived there for nearly 10 yrs.
Cherry blossoms are peeping out from the locals I’ve chatted within the past few days. So Easter weekend should be beautiful.
I write about Vancouver ,…occasionally: http://www.insidevancouver.ca/author/jean/
Cheers.
Home Sweet Home 🙂 An interestingly urban take on the city (it is funny when the one photo of the BC Coastal mountains seems like an outlier).
I know. It felt a bit odd to include it in the set but I had to have at least one that showed the mountains. I have others but didn’t get the exact angles I was looking for in them so hope to go back for another shot 😉
Great photos
Simply beautiful! I love your shots!
Awesome Photos
Beautiful Vancouver! Amazing shots…
wow Superb Photos……….
Thanks for posting
I have to agree with a2canadian above–it’s strange and funny to see the one picture with mountains and Stanley park be the exception instead of the norm. A very interesting take. (And I love how you gathered so many colours in such a usually-urban-grey landscape!)
Thanks for the comments. It’s funny because I wanted to capture a lot more of the mountains and city together because the contrast is amazing. I just didn’t have enough time. Next time I’m there I plan to get on top of some of those buildings.
Sounds good. And you’re absolutely right–city-grey against mountain-blue is a wonder to see.
(I especially love a shot capturing grey against blue against lighter blue of the sky, or white clouds, and shots of downtown at twilight or reflected in water are just as nice.)
Great photos of a great spot in North America…a good visit in any season. You could easily spend a busy week or so in Vancouver, followed by a short excursion to Whistler, opening up another BC tourism experience. Thanks for sharing
lovely place & lovely pictures
damn! it’s so cool! I want to go to Vancouver >,<

I love those floating things. Great photography.
Really a superb informative blog…love it.
Great shots!
Love a good photo blog. Had a go at my own on my time in London
My favorite is the float plane station — because the float-planes are such a specific image to that city you won’t find in other places. I was born in YVR and have been back many times since. The planes define the city for me in ways that skyscrapers and churches do not.
extremely impressive indeed
Nice processing of the pictures
These pictures are amazing. It looks cold thought?
Wow! I can’t get over the amazing colours in your photographs!
Thanks. I appreciate the comment!
great photos!! makes me more determined to visit.. thanks! 🙂
Beautiful photos… love the mountains! Although I was born in White Rock, I haven’t spent much time in BC. Would love to go back for a visit soon! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing.

Hey, you got “pressed”. Congratulations.
My mum and dad went to Vancouver and remember it fondly. Hence, I always wanted to go there… I want to go there. I will.
The swimming pool photo is my favorite.
Each photo a poem
Stunning photos! You’ve captured some gorgeous and interesting perspectives. I miss Vancouver a lot. Looking at all of this makes me miss it even more. 🙂
Last one just about sums up Vancouver… Nicely done, thanks for a little bit of nostalgia.
I’ve been wanting to visit Vancouver for a long time (never been). And now I REALLY want to visit Vancouver… Thank you!
you remind me how beautiful my city is. great photos!
Vancouver looks like a wonderful place.
I live in Van and sadly, I can’t recognize most of these xD
I love Vancouver, even when it is gloomy. Wonderful photos, I can’t wait to visit again, and again, and again…

Nice photos of Canada in Vancouver, well done for being featured on WordPress freshly pressed.
always love Vancouver…love some of your different perspectives.
I have not seen Vancouver from these angles before. I liked the way you captured a winter sparseness of the city. And to think this gorgeous city is just across the border from me.
I miss Vancouver! Thats my city! Thanks for reminding and sharing
I’ve always wanted to visit Vancouver because of how beautiful I hear it is.
this is a different side of Vancouver than what comes to mind from my visits… these

Very nice photos from a very nice town
I’m travelling today, via wordpress. 🙂 Drop by lizabethlacey photography to check on NZ sight, then Australia, here! I wish to go for both places. NZ for study, AU for my future marriage… hahaha..
I’m South African, travelled to the USA plenty of times, but Vancouver sure is high up the list. In fact, If things really get bad here, I’ll move to Vancouver 🙂 Beautiful! Looks like paradise! and you take awesome pictures!
Very nice pics! Thank you
I managed to snag two front row seats to the Police’s fan club preview concert/rehearsal in 2007 and that meant a trip to Vancouver! It was one of the most enjoyable vacations ever. I too loved that building (can’t remember what it is) with the blue and green colorful tiles on the exterior.
Great photos.
Great pictures, your gift and talent comes through with each shot, I know I can’t do that!

Amazing photo’s from Vancouver BC
I aspire to become as good as you as photography, maybe one day. =
All of these pictures are stunning, how did you get the colours to be SO vivid?
What strikes me about each picture is the colours and how deep they look.
-Pepper
some of it is having good equipment and getting the right exposure and some of it is teasing the colors out in post processing. I’m not a purist when it comes to only capturing what you see through the view finder. To me, part of the art and fun of photography is what you can do with the picture after you take it. I have a post planned to demonstrate this. Thanks for the compliment!
very nice
Those are absolutely stunning photographs! Congrats on being freshly pressed!
I like the photographs, they are relaxing, just sitting here looking at them I can actually see myself standing in the from of them, going inside and enjoying the view.
Beautiful!!!!!!!

Nope. CanSecWest is an annual security conference. Before that, I was in San Francisco for RSA, another security conference. It’s more about taking advantage of your surroundings whenever you can.
I have seen a dream city through your photographs………Amazing pictures. Cannot stop myself to admire your photography…..But where the leaves have gone ?
Keep it Up Jerry !
Thanks for the compliment. It’s still winter but I imagine the leaves will be out in the next few weeks after spring starts.
