Malaekahana State Recreation Area – Oahu

As you can see, we had some overcast days on Oahu. Quite a bit of rain as well. Those of us who are native to the Pacific Northwest aren’t too bothered by this but most people from the Seattle area go to Hawaii to get some sun.

These photos are from Malaekahana State Recreation Area which is near the BYU campus. I call the first one “learning to walk on water”. The little island the people are walking out to is called Mokuaula and there is a sandbar separating it from the main island.

I find the trees to be interesting. I believe they are tropical pine or fir trees, I cannot remember which. They are not native to the islands and they are taking over. Their pine needles cover the ground and choke out the native plants. They are everywhere.
